 13 seer vs 14 seer

So your asking yourself.  What the heck does SEER mean,  Well I will tell you this, knowing what it means can save you a bunch of money.

What SEER has to do with is: how energy efficient your air conditioner unit is.  It stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio.   Why is there such a rating you might ask.  Since the heating unit and Air Conditioner unit are two of the most energy sucking systems in a residents home, the government in its infinite wisdom came up with a rating system, so consumers could choose air conditioner units that best serve their needs and their budget.

What is really being taken into account when coming up with these ratings are how much cooling you are getting for the amount of power that is being used by the unit.  Since the amount of power used by an air conditioner is quite high, it only stands to reason that you as a consumer pay close attention to the SEER number.

13 SEER
You see my friends, the government in its infinite wisdom has decided that no air conditioner unit can be built after the year 2015 AD that has a seer rating less than 15.   So my advice to you that do not wish to spend money you don't have is to purchase a 13 seer unit before they run out.  But first take the preventative steps and have your ducts cleaned properly and your system calibrated.

I should explain a little further,  now I am not saying that a 13 seer unit is the best air conditioner for your needs.  All I am saying is that the upfront cost is lower than the 14 seer vs. 15 seer.  As the rating go up the price goes up for the AC unit.

How much you may want to know.  Well for every jump in the seer rating you are talking about a $1000.00 to $1400.00 difference in price.  The good news is the higher the SEER rating the lower your monthly electricity bill.   So if you plan to stay at your residence for a long period of years you will certainly make up for the difference in price.  Plus the higher Seer number will increase the value of your home.

Here is a list of the different SEER Ratings.   From the lowest to the highest you are talking up to a 50% increase in you
